YPN Newsletter, September 2011
Message From the President
I hope everyone had a great summer and that you were able to take some much-needed vacation time. Fall is now upon us and it is time to look back over the summer months, as well, look forward to what the YPN has in store over fall with our second quarterly newsletter.
This summer the YPN created numerous opportunities for our members to interact with one another through bi-weekly happy hour events, our Nanaimo CDC silly boat submission, various charity golf tournaments, our CanStruction build, the Harris Group Corporate Event and the annual YPN Summer BBQ.
We also revamped Communicators and look forward to seeing continued growth at these meetings, as members continue to develop their public speaking skills in a comfortable atmosphere.
September has also been “back to school” for our members as we launched our fall professional development calendar with our first “Lunch and Learn” event. We also had a great talk from Nick West of Enable Business Consulting, about setting and achieving personal and professional goals. As well, members learned about Succession Planning and Fraud through the partners at Meyers Norris Penny on our third YPN Corporate Event of 2010. Leif Bogwald and the Professional Development teams have more events lined up over the next few months and I look forward to seeing you there.
We feel it is very important that the YPN continues to have a positive impact in our community. Therefore, it is with great excitement we announce our involvement with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Nanaimo (BBBS). We encourage you to read the enclosed article about BBBS and get involved in this initiative to work with the youth in our community.
As our community profile continues to grow, so does our membership total. We are now over 70 members strong and are always looking for additional members interested in bettering themselves, and their community through the involvement in the YPN.
If you know someone that would be a great fit for our organization, please bring him or her out to any future YPN event and introduce them to our membership team!
Thank you for taking a moment to read our fall newsletter. As always, we look forward to seeing you at the numerous upcoming YPN events, and we wish you a great fall season!
Sincerely,
Andre Sullivan
2010/11 YPN President
